President William Ruto is expected to preside over the National Tree Planting Day at the Kiu Wetlands in Makindu, Makueni County.
The government hopes to plant at least 100 million seedlings during the exercise.
The Ministry of Environment has also mapped out specific sites per County for simultaneous launches.
Each Cabinet Secretary will oversee the exercise in at least two counties assisted by local leaders.
In addition, National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) will be supporting the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry in coordinating the exercise which is part of Kenya’s Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Programme.
Last week on Monday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki gazetted 13th November, 2023, as a Public Holiday, for National Tree Growing as the country races to achieve the growing of 15 billion trees by 2032.
